Emma Watson was born in Paris in the family of Jacqueline Lusby and Chris Watson, English lawyers. At the age of 5 she moved with her family from Paris to England. Her parents broke up, and Emma began to live with her mother and younger brother Alex. She studied at the elementary school Dragon School in Oxford. At school, she played the main roles in the performances of «Youth of Arthur», «The Happy Prince» and the role of an evil cook in «Alice in Wonderland». At the age of 7 she won the first place in the school competition of readers.
When she was years old, Emma firmly decided that she would become an actress. When Emma was nine, the head of a drama club from her school invited her to take part in the casting for the role of Hermione in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. To her surprise, Emma won. Since then, her whole life is inextricably linked with Harry Potter.
Emma graduated from the Headington Girls School. In 2008, she graduated from the summer acting classes at the RADA Academy in London. In May 2014, Emma graduated from Brown University (USA) and received a bachelor's degree.
Emma's first role outside of Harry Potter was in 2007 in the film «Ballet Slippers». In this film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Noel Streetfield, Emma played the beginning actress Paulina Fossil, the eldest of three sisters around whom the plot is built.
In 2013, Emma starred as an ambitious thief Nikki in the Sofia Coppola film «Elite Society», as well as the role of herself in the comedy-catastrophe «The End of the World». In 2017, the movie «The Beauty and the Beast» was released as a film adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name in which Emma played the main role.
In 2005 Watson began her modeling career, starring for the cover of Teen Vogue magazine. In 2011, at the Elle Style Awards ceremony, Emma was awarded the Style Icon award from designer Vivienne Westwood. A month later, it was announced that Watson had been chosen as the new face of Lancôme.
Watson visited Bangladesh and Zambia to promote girls ’education in these countries. In July 2014, Watson was appointed as the UN Goodwill Ambassador.
